Community
Services
Community programmes are a part of the overall curriculum.
Students are instilled with a sense of responsibility and spirit
of 'give and take', giving knowledge to and taking values from
the society. This social sensitization work involves a range
of activities: imparting IT awareness amongst the less privileged
school children, building village roads etc. SCIT also participates
in NGO programmes.
Harali Experiment : A group
of students stayed in Harali village, 300 km. from Pune along
with the headmaster and teachers of the village school. They
interacted with 250 students and conducted an 'IT Awareness'
programme. They created a 'Student Resource Group' of the school
children to continue their learning. The teachers were trained
in the use of computers and teaching of the subject.
Ralegan Siddhi, a model village : Each
and every student participated in the programme at Ralegan
Siddhi. The principle practiced was 'give and take'-give knowledge
and take values. The students spent the first part of their
stay in delivering training programmes to nearly 200 students
and in the second part contributed in building village roads.
They also got an opportunity to interact with renowned social
worker and activist Anna Hazare, who had enlightened them with
his experiences and instilled in them the qualities of a simple
and humble life.
Hinjawadi Schools : Teams of
students have been working in 3 schools around Hinjawadi, one
of which is a school for handicapped students. SCIT students
visit the schools and impart IT training to them and also distribute
free softwares.
