Presently working as the Director, Symbiosis Center for Information Technology (SCIT), Ms. Kagal has a rich experience of working in Information Technology for various types of industries and applications for 30 years.
She graduated with an M.S. from the University of Washington in Seattle after consistently achieving excellence in her graduate education. She topped the Pune University list of B.Sc. graduates and went on to receive the Asia Foundation and other scholarships. She was a National Talent Scholar throughout her undergraduate studies.
Director Ms. Shaila Kagal

Her career commenced with Tata Iron & Steel Company at
Jamshedpur. Here, she worked on building several applications
in Finance and Inventory. She moved to Sandvik Asia Limited,
where she had the opportunity of computerizing applications
in Sales, Production and Finance.
She joined the Software Division for Export at Thermax Limited
in 1984. After various assignments in the areas of requirement
analysis, product specification, participation in various exhibitions
in Europe etc., she moved to work on Corporate Development.
This led to her forming the Information System Group that was
focused on implementing IT in Thermax. Under her guidance,
several projects took shape, which include a company-wide network,
order processing system to reduce lead-time, financial information
system to cover a wide range of operations across a geographical
spread, and building an in-house mini-ERP. Her unrelenting
efforts were successful in bringing the IT advantage into the
Thermax project business.
Ms. Kagal joined Symbiosis in their latest arena of education
in November 1999, where the main focus is current trends in
Information Technology for industry requirements. The main
objective of SCIT is to create industry-ready, quality professionals,
who can be productive from Day One. In view of this, she built
a curriculum that combines strong technology basics and advances,
industry practices and soft skills to deliver effective IT
solutions. Several methods of delivering education are continually
being introduced so that the gap between academics and industry
requirements are minimized. Today, several graduates of SCIT
are with reputed companies contributing towards solutions and
playing a crucial role in the success of their organizational
plans.
Ms. Kagal is also an active member of the Managing Committee
of CSI Pune Chapter. She started with CSI as the Editor of
Newsletter and has remained so, for more than 2 years. She
was recently awarded the title of 'IT Woman of the Year' by
the CSI Pune Chapter.
Vijay K Gupta B.Tech. IIT-Kanpur, MBA - IIM-Bangalore
Vijay has done his B.Tech. from IIT, Kanpur and, after a brief stint with Dunlop, did his MBA from IIM, Bangalore. He has joined SCIT after 25 years of industry experience, last 17 of which were with Wipro Limited. His industry experience includes - business development, market research, quality (Six Sigma), coporate brand, corporate communication, eocnomic policies and social initiatives. His current areas of interest are - business strategy, systemic change and learning theories.
Dr. Ajey Kumar Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering, ME in Software Engineering, BE in Computer Science and Engineering
Dr. Ajey Kumar’s research interest includes Mobile Computing, Location Based Services and Spatial Databases. His PhD work has been published in various International Conferences and refereed Journals. Apart from publishing his research, he has also delivered various Research talks at Annual Inter Research Institute Student Seminar (IRISS) in 2004, 2005 & 2006, as well as a keynote address at IEEE Conference on Mobile Computing (M-COMP '06) organized by IEEE - Kerala Section. He did his Internship at Telecom Network R&D Division, Samsung HQ, Suwon, Korea in 2007. He was also associated with IEEE WiCOM 2007 as a Technical Program Committee Member, and currently is a member of ACM SIGAPP.
Chandan Chatterjee B.Tech. IIT-Kharagpur, MBA - IIM-Bangalore
Prof. Chatterjee has had a scholarly academic career throughout. After acquiring a B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur, he studied at IIM Bangalore, where he was the recipient of the coveted Glaxo Marketing Scholar Gold Medal and the ITI Systems Gold Medal.
His keen interest in academics and pedagogy makes him a popular and dedicated professor of management in IT businesses. He has an extensive experience in multiple functional areas such as Sales & Marketing, Information Systems, TQM, and Operations & SBU Management; just as he is highly experienced in multiple industry segments. His vast experience of 22 years is largely built around business results and customer satisfaction in technology-intensive assignments. Chandan's forte is his involvement in marketing through the commissioning of technology centered projects. These projects cover areas like InfoTech and Industrial Systems Integration in a number of companies and government organizations.
Pradnya Purandare MCM - Master in Computer Management
Prof. Pradnya Purandare is a postgraduate from Pune University in Computer Management. Her initial years of work were as a software trainer in the software training industry. She has also conducted several corporate training sessions. She has been working as a Postgraduate Lecturer in Pune University colleges and has a rich experience of teaching IT for 6 years. Her subject areas include Application Programming, Web Technologies and Database Technologies. She has also been a project guide to post graduate students of Pune University. Pradnya enjoys teaching Java, OOAD and UML, Application Programming - VB, Developer 2000, SSAD, DBMS, RDBMS-Oracle 8i, Web Technologies-JavaScript, VBScript, Server Side Programming - ASP, CGI - Perl, Data Structures and MIS.
Dr. Prasenjit Sen has a vast experience totaling more than 30 years in IT industry and also in scientific research. He had started his career in DRDO and later joined Air India's IT department from where he retired as CIO (Director IT).
He had continued his association in IT industry and thus worked for Hexaware and also in short stints as Consultant to John Keells in Colombo. He had virtually seen how the world of IT migrating from closed proprietary systems to open architecture to Open systems. Dr.Sen had all through kept some time for the academia, had a Post Doctoral assignment in Germany and some time as visiting faculty even when he was fully active in the industry. He had recently been associated as a Consultant to the Duke University at their off-shore campus at IIM-A.
R. Venkatraman B.Tech. - IIT-Mumbai. MBA - IIM Ahmedabad
Prof. Venkatraman is an engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT, Powai, Mumbai) and an MBA rank-holder from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM, Ahmedabad), India's leading management school affiliated to the Harvard Business School. He has over 28 years of rich experience in the IT industry covering strategic and operational responsibilities with exposure to diverse areas in software including MRP/ ERP software for the manufacturing industry, solutions for the banking and financial services industry and several vertical segments.
He started his own consulting and software development company in Mumbai in 1987 to provide consulting services and IT solutions to several organizations including leading multinationals. He was responsible for the implementation and support of MRP/ERP packages at a number of renowned organizations. He has a thorough knowledge of Production Information and Control Systems, IT strategy, MIS Development, Networking and QA. Presently, he specializes in the areas of strategic consulting and application of Optimization Techniques to a variety of functional areas including Logistics, Market Planning, Financial Planning, Human Resources etc. He is also an avid exponent of the benefits of KM and Balanced Scorecard in present-day enterprises.
Prof. Rajul Joshi is a management graduate from University of Technology Sydney, Australia. She has inclination for research, teaching and consulting. Prof. Joshi had been an academic associate in IIM-B. She has presented an empirical research paper in national conference and couple of her articles has got published in the journal of national repute. She also had been a consulting editor for two books. Her forte is in Strategic Management, Marketing, Information Technology Management, Organization Development and e-governance. Ms. Joshi has 3.5 years of experience in retail and finance industry and 3 years of teaching and research experience both from India and Abroad.
Prof. Sadhana Ghalsasi comes from a first-class academic background with a deep
passion for teaching. She started teaching as a hobby
but with four years in teaching, it has become her life's calling.
Before joining SCIT, she worked with various universities viz.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi, Pune
University and Shivaji University, Kolhapur. She has an extensive
experience of guiding projects at the post graduate level and
enjoys teaching Software Engineering, Object Oriented Analysis
and Design and Data Structures.
Suprika Vasudeva Srivastava M.E in Computer Science & Engineering - I.T
B.E in Computer Science & Engineering
Prof. Suprika Vasudeva is a postgraduate from the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (Punjab University, Chandigarh) and an engineering graduate from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar). She was among the top 10 rankers in graduation at the University level. Her research area was Data Compression and she has worked on Biomedical Signal Processing. Her research work has been published in the Telecommunication Journal of BSNL. She has received a certification in Internet Applications and Java from IIT Kharagpur. She has taught for various professional and engineering courses for 4 years. Her subjects included computer science subjects like Operating Systems, Data Structures, Theory of Computer Science and Principles of Programming Languages. She also has an experience of guiding students for various projects. Some of her projects include Data Compression for Biomedical Signals (EMG signal), Real Time Voice Communication on the Intranet, and various other database projects. She has a passion for teaching and is particularly keen on Computer Science subjects related to software.
Prof. S. Vijayakumar Bharathi is a Post Graduate in Commerce from Bharathiar University , Coimbatore and in Management from Bharathidasan University , Trichy. He has over 15 years of experience including more than 5 years in the Industry at an Indo-Swiss JV manufacturing textile machinery. While at this company, in addition to his core functions of Costing & Banking, he was a part of the Task-Force on Business Process Mapping and MIS Reporting. On the academic front he has taught a wide range of courses in commerce and management at reputed institutes in Coimbatore and Pune. He is an SAP-ERP trained faculty on Business Process Integration from SAP Labs Bangalore and has more than three years of experience in successfully conducting end-to-end SAP based ERP curriculum.
He has published over 25 articles on contemporary issues on Costing, HR and General Management and also presented papers in various conferences of National and International repute. His recent contribution is that of publishing case studies on ERP and Business Process Mapping in the European Case Clearing House (ecch), United Kingdom . His consultancy projects relate to Upward Appraisal and Community Perception Survey for companies in the manufacturing domain. His areas of interests include ERP, Accounting, Financial Management, Knowledge Management, HR and Entrepreneurship.
Vasundhara Kulkarni MCM - Master in Computer Management
Prof. Vasundhara Kulkarni has been awarded a distinction in Master of Computer Applications from Karnataka University Dharwad (KUD), Dharwad, and is a Bachelor of Science with an Electronics major from P. C. Jabin Science College, Hubli, (KUD). She brings with her 2 years of experience in Application Software Design and Development. She has participated in both small and large teams in various capacities primarily providing, design, development, integration and technical assessment solutions. She has also conducted corporate training programmes and comes with a teaching experience from Aptech Computer Education, Pune. Her special areas of interest in teaching are Project Management, Requirement Engineering, Software Testing and Object Oriented Programming.
