We believe that 'Learning IT is
experiencing IT.
Experiencing IT is practicing IT.
Practicing
IT makes a complete professional.'
SCIT is very conscious and keeps track of the advancing technology
and transformations that the businesses are going through.
In keeping with the multi-faceted learning principle that it
encourages, the students as well as the faculty of SCIT undertake
various industry projects as well as R & D projects.
The learning infrastructure, help our graduates undertake
industry projects, which familiarizes them with the methods
as practiced in the industry. It also helps them gain a thorough
understanding of their subject, which eventually provides them
with the cutting edge in the highly competitive, fast paced
world of Information Technology.

PAR TECS: SCIT Development Project with an Italian
Company
SCIT recently has started a development project with 9 of
its senior students at its "SCIT Resource Centre", a wing where
students develop assignments undertaken from the industry.
In view of SCIT's strong interest in Linux and open source,
this year it has an interesting project from ParTecs Participatory
Technologies, Rome , Italy.
An Overview of ParTecs
ParTecs is an international software company headquartered in Rome , Italy
, with key management staff in Rome , Bonn and San Francisco having a major
research and production facility in its Indian Subsidiary, in Pune , India
.
ParTecs SRL offers 2-way communication services that enable members and representatives
of international organizations and networks to complement their in-person meetings,
with effective participation in formal and informal decision-making processes
via Internet, Email, Mail-in and Fax-in forms.
ParTecs offer software-related services to political and social organizations,
national and transnational, governmental and non-governmental. Through efficient
and participatory multimedia groupware software, ParTecs promote their clients'
efforts to energize their constituency and best fulfill their mission through
increased membership numbers, activism and financial contributions.
Functional Overview of ParTecs SRL 1.0
PARTECS 1.0 enables sharing of knowledge amongst a body of users; typically
NGO's or government organization. The use of Open Source makes it affordable
for them while the product will assist in managing knowledge generated by
various members and its usage. This becomes an important tool in decision
making about a proposal providing access to relevant information such as
views of different members, petitions, votes etc. with ease.
SCIT & ParTecs
SCIT is now working on a component of ParTecs' flagship product ParTecs SRL
1.0, dealing with participatory knowledge management(PKB). Nine of its senior
students will be developing this using Open Source technology.
Participatory Knowledge Base (PKB):
A self-managed collective repository of news, articles, reports, facts, and
opinion pieces, in different text, audio and video formats is the main aim
of PKB. It enables the open posting, as well as the decentralized and participatory
rating and classification of digital information, primarily text, but also
audio and video.
With PKB securely authenticated and profiled users can submit relevant original
or third-party information, participate in information rating, participate
in information classification, maintain custom editorial pages etc.
The PKB also helps the members with their decision making
and thus interacts with the other modules for the data required
in decision making
