Resource Center

It was established in the year of 2000. It undertakes various IT industry projects. The projects are guided by SCIT in-house faculties and various industry consultants depending upon the technical environment of the projects. The projects are designed, developed and delivered by SCIT students.
The SCIT Resource Center is nurtured on the 'Continuous Learning and Searching for Solutions' mantra and endeavours to seek assignments from industry for delivering IT solutions. It combines the academic intelligence of faculty members, professional expertise and trained skills of the students. Assignments in a range of areas are undertaken at the ' SCIT Resource Center '. So far 14 projects have been delivered covering open source network administration and management tools, database conversion tools, web-based solutions, requirement analysis and prototyping, etc.

Typical Projects undertaken
•  Serial Port Communication and Protocol Development
•  Event Tracker Syntax Converter Oracle to/from MS SQL
•  Linux VPN Configurator
•  LDAP Server & Authentication Modules for Linux
•  Mail Filtration Tool for Linux
•  Web-based Marketing Tool for ScheBeck
•  RA & Prototype for Artificial Limb Center

Resource Center Projects
Brief description about the projects:

The ALICE Project : It provides online information of a patient order.
Company Details : The Artificial Limb Center is the only center owned by The Defense Ministry of India. It manufactures artificial limbs mainly for the soldiers. It has approximately 47,000 number of soldier records from the year 1942. It manufactures complete limbs and also appendix items for replacement. After ordering the limb, the patient needs to visit the center for at least 2 trials, before the limb is delivered.

Project Details : The following modules were identified in the entire process
•  Patient Registration
•  Patient Work Order Processing
•  Stores and Inventory
•  Administration and Billing

The entire project was divided into three phases.
Phase 1: Patient Registration, Patient Work Order Processing
Phase 2: Administration and Billing
Phase 3: Stores and Inventory
Although the full solution was developed in three phases, a seamless integration of all the phases was effected.

VPN Configuration
It develops a knowledge-base database of a Virtual Private Network (VPN). It provides the end-user with a graphical interface. The interface enables him to configure and install VPN on Linux-based machines.
Virtual Private Network is a technology, which enables secure transmission of information over public network like the Internet. Installation of VPN on Linux based machines uses a software called FreeS/WAN. Certain configuration files need to be configured as per user requirements. This is presently done in command-line mode. But this project provides the user with a graphical interface so that he/she can easily install VPN on his/her Linux based machines, even if he/she does not have knowledge of the various configuration files.

MAIL DROP
Maildrop is a mail delivery agent or a mail filter. It can be used to filter incoming mails according to various parts of mail like envelope, headers and body of the mail message. It should use a structured filtering language. The filtering instructions can be defined in a file located globally or in the user's home directory. The system works in the following way.
After the installation, Maildrop is configured to deliver mails to Maildir. Then qmail is configured to deliver mails using Maildrop. The mails are delivered to the Maildirs in the user's home directory. This project involved the study of the filtering language of Maildrop. In this language, various filtering instructions were written. A graphical interface was developed to add and delete those instructions through the graphical user interface. This interface can be used by any user to modify his delivery scheme.
